Major William Downs of Winchester, Virginia, died at age 40 in the crash of an Iraqi air force aircraft during a training mission in eastern Diyala province. He was assigned to the 6th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Beth Downs; two boys, Chandler Downs, and Bailey Downs, a daughter, Elle Downs, and a brother, Frank Downs. Maj. William Downs also has a memorial marker in Arlington National naming him and the four others he was with. Their unidentified remains are buried together.
