David almost missed his shot at becoming a member of the Navy's elite bomb experts. While stationed in Japan, he was hit by a civilian truck driver and his injuries took nine surgeries and a lot of rehabilitation. But he never gave up on getting into Navy dive school. He said he would run again and he would make it. That's how dedicated he was. He graduated from explosive disposal training just over a year ago and was assigned to the Navy's Little Creek amphibious base in Norfolk. He went to Kuwait earlier this year and was sent to Iraq in June. One of his friends, Chief Petty Officer Paul Darga , had recently been killed in Iraq by a homemade bomb and he called home more after his friend's death, and was looking forward to seeing his wife and three children over the holidays. He was counting down the days to come home. He is survived by his wife, Cristale A. Roddy, daughter Jessica, sons, Matthew and Michael, parents Robert and Carol Roddy and in-laws Edward and Hazel O'Rourke, brother of Michael Roddy. grandparents of Gloria Roddy and Matilda Hast. He was 32.
