Special Warfare Operator Senior Chief (Navy SEAL) Thomas J. Valentine enlisted in the United States Navy in August 1989 out of Ham Lake, Minnesota. After finishing his SEAL training, including advanced courses, he and his family settled in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Thomas was a member of the highly selective Naval Special Warfare Development Group based at Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, which evaluates and develops tactics and tests equipment for Navy and other military special forces. He was deployed several times to the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan, earning earning three Bronze Stars with "V" for valor, two joint Service Commendation Medals; five Good Conduct Medals, three Combat Action Ribbons and Marine Corps Commendation medals, among other decorations. Tom epitomized what SEALs strive for, a complete commitment to excellence. He is survived by his wife, Christina K. Valentine and their children John and Meghan; his parents, John "Jack" Burnette Valentine and Kathryn "Katie" Blanche (nee Boeckers) Valentine; his brother, Tim Valentine; and sister, Susie Valentine-Bengston. Thomas died as a result of a training accident.
